Spiritual Malpractice
Ez. 22:27-29 "Her princes in her midst are like wolves tearing the prey, to shed blood, to destroy people, and to get dishonest gain. Her prophets plastered them with untempored mortar, seeing false visions, and divining lies for them, saying, 'Thus says the Lord God,' when the Lord had not spoken. The people of the land have used oppressions, committed robbery, and mistreated the poor and needy; and they wrongfully oppress the stranger."

I know this scripture was written back in Old Testament days about the religious leaders in Israel who were mistreating God’s people. But some things never change. This past week I have witnessed these same grievances perpetrated against God’s people, the church of Jesus Christ, and this really gets my dander up.

Bob Larson is of the Devil

I am still in a state of shock after attending a Bob Larson meeting over the weekend. As the verse above says, these wolves are out to "destroy people" and to "get dishonest gain." No one does that quite like Bob. My husband is planning on writing an extended report of it, so I won’t go into too much detail here.

Anytime I have seen Larson shoving his Bible on the heads of growling, screaming, women, supposedly possessed by the devil, I have wondered how on earth he got them to act that way. Well now I know. What he doesn’t show on TV is how he works up the crowd into that state in the first place.

After spending an hour showing the crowd at the Wyndham Hotel in San Jose, California a video of him "casting out devils," he then turns his attention to fund-raising. He belittled people who "tip God" and then told of his need to raise $1.2 million for his deliverance center in Phoenix. He spent a good (or not so good) hour of preaching about the awards of giving to God and the penalties for holding back. After he gave people time to write out their sacrificial checks, just before the buckets came around, he commanded all of them to take a bill out of their wallets and include that for the room rental. Shockingly, many complied, adding $10 or $20 dollar bills to their checks and then came the buckets.

And then he worked up the crowd to manifest something Satanic. He told everyone that if there were any strongholds of the devil within them, one only needed to reach back to past hurts to get them to surface and then be dealt with. He prepped everyone in how he expected them to respond and emote whatever they were feeling. "Some will scream or shake or weep or cry out. Let it out. Connect with it," he shouted. "Let the devil drive. Let it come up. Let Satan express himself. Don’t suppress it. You have to get physical!"

He complained that he wasn’t getting the kind of cooperation he was seeking. There were some muffled crying and a scream here and there from a women Larson said he has worked with before." He didn’t seem interested in her, but told his team members to take her aside. Finally one pretty Hispanic girl began crying hysterically. She confessed that she was a victim of rape and then this wolf committed a spiritual rape against this helpless victim. He looked in her sad face and shouted, "Go to the pain. "I rebuke you Satan " And then he called the wrath of God down on the alleged devil. "I confront that pain in the name of Jesus. Get up and face the man of God now, Satan." He brought her up to the front, and looking into her eyes he again addressed Satan. "You’re a liar, Satan. Look at me, come on work with me." I don’t think any deliverance happened there. All Larson did was push this poor girl close to the edge of sanity.

It was alarming how many people brought little children from infancy on to that meeting. Our group of observers prayed silently against anything manifesting. An 11-year-old girl sitting next to me would begin to shake as instructed, and I would look as her, give her a smile and say a silent prayer and her shaking would stop.

Larson describes his method of deliverance on his website. He writes "The devil traffics in human suffering, and we take people to the ‘point of the pain’ to discover where their souls have been scarred, allowing Satan to torment them." If anything Satanic does manifest, it is apparent that it is because they’ve opened themselves up to the demons this wolf traffics in.

False Prophets are at it Again

The Scripture verse above also talks about false prophets divining lies and then having the gumption to say that God said it. One thing that seems to escape those who listen to these false prophets is that in the Bible when God spoke through prophets it was to convey something that mattered to God. The prophecies served God’s purpose. However, what passes as prophecies today are inane things that carnal people care about but which have little or nothing to do with God’s relationship with His people.

A case in point: The Associated Press this week ran a story with this headline: "Robertson: God Said Tsunami Will Hit U.S." The article went on to report, "In another in a series of notable pronouncements, religious broadcaster Pat Robertson says God told him storms and possibly a tsunami will hit America's coastline this year. Robertson has made the predictions at least four times in the past two weeks on his news-and-talk television show ‘The 700 Club’…’If I heard the Lord right about 2006, the coasts of America will be lashed by storms,'’ Robertson said May 8. On Wednesday, he added, `There well may be something as bad as a tsunami in the Pacific Northwest.’''

What is God’s message to His people in that pronouncement? I just don’t see any. However, I have heard these warnings somewhere else – the Weather Channel. Pat Robertson should maybe stop watching the Weather Channel’s new program, "It Could Happen Tomorrow." If the forecasters are correct, it just might give Pat Robertson some much sought after recognition. I would be more impressed if Pat would just do what he claimed he did several years ago when he prayed a hurricane away from the coast of Virginia and onto North Carolina. Maybe Pat could pray the tsunami into Canada. The heck with the Canadians!

And then, musical false prophet Kim Clement, a favorite of TBN’s, visited Detroit recently and prophesied that that city is about to get one of their own in the White House, the Ford Motor Company would be prospering again, and the Motown label would return to the glory days of the 1960s. Does any of that matter a hill of beans to the Lord?

Here is an excerpt of his statement that was run on the Elijah List:

"The spirit of God says, ‘I will not forget my promises. I will not forget the words that I have brought to this city… The heavens are opening up over this region again. Let it rain! Let it rain! Let it pour! There will be showers, showers, showers, showers, showers, showers, showers, showers!! "This will come to pass,’ says the spirit of the Lord. ‘It shall come to pass, and once again a native of Michigan shall stand in the White House…’There will be a re-visitation of the 50's and the 60's and the 70's,’ says the spirit of God. And God said, ‘Motown will be revived. Motown will be revived…? "Who is Ford? Huh! Let me tell you," God says. ‘Ford will be revived! It shall be revived in a way that shall shock the motor industry.’"

On the same day I read this, I received an email of an article written by Donald E. Wildmon, Founder and Chairman of the American Family Association. The headline read, "Ford Headed Toward Bankruptcy, But Support Of Homosexual Groups Continues." Doesn’t look good for Clement.

Then I checked the record label Motown’s website,

It opens with two links: "Motown Now" and "Classic Motown." Under the latter the hits of Marvin Gaye, the Supremes, and the Temptations were listed, among a slew of others. Remember Marvin Gaye’s Motown hit, "Sexual Healing." After Motown released that hit, Gaye’s father was offended and shot the singer dead. So much for old Motown’s record of righteousness.

So I clicked on "Motown Now" and it revealed a tribute to their newest and most popular hit, "Grown & Sexy" by Chamillionaire. Here’s a portion of the lyrics:

"Yours truly chamillionaire and im holdin it
down for the playas who don't believe in love at first sight but bel
them playas that believes he can get lovin the first night
Ha that right you
So before I get to discussin what type of eye I need
And what type visual stimulation she needs to be able to achieve
I somethin special about you and its really hard to see"

"Had to tell ya that im really feelin yo style
Saw ya walkin by and couldn't let ya pass
Gotta tell ya that really feelin yo smile
But even better is the beaty of ya ___
Starin right into the beaty of ya Profile
There's somethin that I gotta ask
Can ya leeet me
Leeet me view ya beauty from the back"

Okay, I think you get the picture. Is there anything there worth God’s blessing? Kim Clement has revealed what is important to him, but to God it is an abomination.

I can only conclude that some sort of spiritual darkness has come upon those who can not see through such obvious corrupt men as Kim Clement and Bob Larson. I wouldn’t go so far as to label Pat Robertson in that camp, but if he continues putting a "thus sayeth the Lord" on his own ideas, he is in danger of being given over as these others apparently have been.

Heavenly Father, deliver your little ones from the mouth of the lion. Forgive those who, in ignorance, look the other way and refuse to speak out when they see your people victimized. Forgive them, for they know not what they do. Teach them that to love is to confront those who harm your lambs. Please give your remnant the boldness to expose error and call such wickedness what it is. Help us to speak the truth in love, yet not shirk our duty to call evil evil and good good. Give us the mind of Christ to know how to respond to the doctrines of devils that invade our churches and homes via television. In the name of Your Son, Jesus. Amen!
